“Not looking great”- Journo gives update on Chelsea vs Liverpool fixture this weekend

Liverpool vs Chelsea ‘not looking great’ amid postponement fears

According to Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail via Twitter

, Liverpool’s fixture against Chelsea scheduled for 18th September “not looking great” at the moment. After the Queen’s death on September 8, the nation is under a mourning period.

The fixture faces the scare of postponement amidst the Queen’s funeral State funeral on Monday, September 19. Liverpool’s fixture against Wolves saw a deferral as well. In a season which has a World Cup scheduled in December, postponement of fixtures sees the problem of fatigue rising rapidly.

The next game week is also under the same threat now after gameweek 7 was entirely postponed. The revised dates are yet to be announced.

This fixture is potentially Graham Potter’s first game in charge of Chelsea. If the funeral takes place on Sunday, the fixture will be postponed to a later date. The threat of postponements only stands for Premier League, FA Cup and EFL Cup games.

This would mean that Liverpool will only play in the Premier League next month – Brighton and Hove Albion on 1st October. The Reds last played league football on August 31 against Newcastle United in a 2-1 win.

As far as the UEFA games are concerned, they will go ahead as scheduled. Premier League journalist Richard Buxton provided a set of dates for the deferred fixtures. That is in case this weekend’s games do not go ahead as set before.

No Premier League action last weekend will pull all of the Reds’ focus onto their game against Ajax in Amsterdam. There would be enough time to sit and regroup as a team about what went wrong and how to minimise those mistakes which were made.

The international break – the last one before the FIFA World Cup in Qatar – is set to take place after our potential PL clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this weekend. The Reds faced the Blues four times last season and all four games ended in a draw in regulation time.

This included two penalty shoot-out wins – one in the FA Cup final and the other in the EFL Cup final. If the game against the Blues is postponed, then the PL clash against Brighton & Hove Albion on October 1 will be our next assignment in the league.
