Arthur Melo focused on Liverpool amidst rumours of loan termination

According to Fabrizio Romano via Twitter, Arthur Melo is completely focused on Liverpool at the moment. Amidst rumours of the Reds terminating his loan as early as January, Romano’s claims put a standstill to the speculation.

The Brazilian joined the Reds on deadline day on loan from Juventus for a loan fee of £3.9m with the option of making the deal permanent for £32.3m. The former Barcelona midfielder has not seen enough game-time in the short duration he has been at the Reds.

Liverpool have played three games since Arthur has been at the club, and he has played a total of 13 minutes. Moreover, two of the Reds fixtures in the same period stood postponed, or there could have been a chance to see more of the 26-year-old in Liverpool colours.

Melo Misery on Merseyside?

Liverpool’s apparent consideration of terminating Arthur’s loan comes as a shock. With a very less number of midfielders fit at the club, retaining the Brazilian’s services for as long as possible makes most sense presently.

Currently, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson and Curtis Jones see themselves sidelined due to injury. Amidst such times, every midfielder counts, and hence Arthur’s presence holds importance as well.

Like Thiago Alcantara, Melo is a technical player whose influence only becomes apparent after a prolonged period of time on the pitch but that is not the case at the present. With the World Cup in November, player fatigue issues will be a bigger issue than ever and it becomes crucial to have as many players as possible at disposal for Liverpool.

It will be extremely unfair if Liverpool consider terminating his contract, as he has not even played enough to garner enough attention at Merseyside. But on the brighter side, Romano’s tweet comes at just the right moment.

A player’s commitment to himself and the club provides the fans with the assurance that he is focused on getting the best results. Melo saw himself termed as one of the world’s best midfielders during his time at Barcelona and he still has time to prove the same.
