Liverpool to ‘try again’ to sign Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde
According to AS (Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are “ready to try again” to sign Real Madrid’s 24-year-old midfielder Federico Valverde. Interestingly, before signing Arthur Melo on loan, Liverpool bid €100m for the Real Madrid man but were unsuccessful in their efforts.
Another one of Liverpool’s targets, Aurelien Tchouameni, joined Los Blancos, leaving the Reds to sign secondary targets last summer. But apart from Melo, the Reds signed no other midfielder going into the 2022-23 campaign.
The primary reason why the Reds were unsuccessful in their pursuit to sign Valverde could be the fact that one of Real Madrid’s midfield mainstays in Casemiro moved to Manchester United and the Spanish giants were probably unwilling to let go of two first-team superstars in the same window.
Fede at Liverpool
Valverde has been in top form this season and has emerged as one of Real’s best players in this year’s campaign. The Uruguayan has made nine appearances this season, securing himself four goals and two assists across all competitions.
This time around though, Liverpool are said to be ready to part ways with £85m to sign Valverde. However, it is highly unlikely that Carlo Ancelotti agrees to let the Uruguayan go as he is one of their best players, and could potentially carry the Real Madrid midfield alongside Tchouameni and Camavinga.
At only 24 years of age, Valverde is still to reach his peak and is still performing giving 8/10 performances week in and week out. Most of Real Madrid’s players have the precious skill of versatility. Valverde is no different. He can play anywhere in midfield as well as put in a shift in the wings.
Liverpool’s midfield is currently in a transitional phase with three midfielders over the age of 31 and two others likely to become free agents next summer. Liverpool are almost certain to add to their midfield next summer accordingly. It is to be seen whether the Uruguayan will make the move to Merseyside.
