Portuguese midfielder rejected Liverpool’s approach in favor of 2023 transfer to Spain

Ruben Neves ‘rejected’ Liverpool in favour of 2023 transfer to Barcelona

According to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves rejected approaches from Liverpool in favour of a transfer to his dream club FC Barcelona in 2023.

Liverpool’s season started poorly and a mini-injury crisis in midfield did not make life easier. Jurgen Klopp acknowledged the need to look for the right player to cover the deficit and made a list of possible primary targets that can be attained.

Portuguese International Neves was one such name on the list. However, upon contacting the representatives of the player, there was little willingness

to complete a deal from the player’s side. This led to Liverpool’s interest dwindling and us opting to loan Arthur Melo from Juventus.
Ruben Neves has his eyes set on a dream transfer to FC Barcelona

The primary reason behind the non-willingness to negotiate was down to the factor that Neves already has his next destination set in mind with FC Barcelona the club he desires to join.

It would not be wrong to assume that certain communications would have occurred between the player’s representatives and the Catalan club, for him to reject big money offers to stay another year at Wolves.

It is speculated that Barcelona have made Neves their No.1 primary target to replace the outgoing Sergio Busquets. This could see them go all out for the player in the 2023 summer transfer window.

Ruben Neves’s transfer would be one of the biggest sagas of the next transfer window

Considering his contract expires (Transfermarkt) in 2024, it would provide Barcelona and other clubs as well, to get a player of his ilk for a rather reasonable value, thus making the deal more enticing.

Neves has been a breath of fresh air ever since making his move to Wolves from FC Porto and has cemented himself as one of the midfield generals in the Premier League.

It was rather confusing as to why he has not been picked up by one of the top clubs considering his impressive performances with Wolves, for whom he has notched over 220

appearances.

The speculation that he could be on his way to Spain does indeed provide clarity about the player’s preference and also his willingness to wait for the right move shows the correct attitude required in a professional footballer.
