Liverpool have been handed a major blow as talented Portuguese attacker Diogo Jota missed training ahead of the Reds’ clash against Brighton after asking to be substituted in Portugal’s 0-1 loss to Spain in the Nations League midweek, according to Liverpool Echo.
The talented Portuguese attacker who suffered a hamstring injury during pre-season and recovered only recently might be injured yet again and might miss the Brighton clash this weekend.
Whilst there is no statement from the club whether the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man is injured and if he will miss the game tomorrow, there is a chance that Jurgen Klopp will not want to risk him.
A revelation ever since he made the move to Anfield, Jota quickly established himself as a starter for the Reds. He eventually pushed Roberto Firmino down the pecking order and became the main player for the striker role.
Liverpool have started off the season rather poorly by their own lofty standards and some of the poor form can be attributed to the absence of their star attacker in the absence of whom the goals have been hard to come by.
Just when he seemed to be returning to his best and slowly gaining match sharpness, Liverpool will feel disheartened by the fact that the Portuguese striker seems to have injured himself again.
Jurgen Klopp will likely be counting on Roberto Firmino or Darwin Nunez to step up against Brighton. Whilst the former has been preferred as a starter this season, Nunez would be a better bet.
Liverpool take on Brighton at a time when the Seagulls are going through a change. Graham Potter has left the club for Chelsea and the English club finds themselves with a new manager who will come in with new ideas.
It’s high time the Reds step on the pedal and bring themselves back to the levels that they have set for themselves over the years and to do that, Brighton will not be a bad start.
