Report: Liverpool among teams keeping track of 18-year-old South American winger

Transfer News: Liverpool among Premier League sides scouting Chilean wonderkid Dario Osorio

According to 90min (h/t Birmingham Mail), Liverpool are among the Premier League clubs scouting Dario Osorio of Universidad de Chile. The 18-year-old is also subject to scouting from Manchester City, Chelsea, Brighton, Brentford, Leicester and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The player is very versatile from what it appears from his limited appearances in the top flight. Other than his usual position of right-wing, he can play centre-forward and the left-wing as well.

Osorio was also handed a senior-national team cap earlier this year in June. He came off the bench in both games, playing seven

and nine minutes respectively against Tunisia and Ghana.

Along with the mentioned Premier League clubs, Osorio is also on the radar of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan. At merely 18 years of age, the youngster attracting the eyes of Europe’s elite must mean that the player is special.

The actual question that arises here is the fact that do Liverpool really need one more attacker at this stage? Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez currently constitute the attack.

Harvey Elliott, Kaide Gordon and Fabio Carvalho can play those advanced roles as and when the situation demands them to do so. One more attacker at this stage is just filling up the books more than catering to the actual requirements of the club.

If the club are really interested in getting new players on board, the main focus should be the middle of the park wherein the Reds are going through a phase of transition. Only two of our midfielders are below 30. Arthur Melo stands discounted as he is currently on loan.

Even though Osorio could be the next big thing in Chile, it is essential for Liverpool to figure out whether the club really needs a player of his skillset at the moment as the attack, from what it appears stacked for the time being.

A move which suits us financially and doesn’t compromise our interest elsewhere – such as strengthening the midfield – is surely something not a lot of Liverpool fans would mind. But with the names of the clubs interested, it could be a tough road to signing Osorio.
