“Haaland is going places”- Micah Richards believes Darwin Nunez being compared to Man City star was not “realistic”

Micah Richards says Liverpool star Darwin Nunez is much better than what fans have seen

Writing for Daily Mail, Micah Richards believes Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is much better than what has been on the show so far in the season. The 23-year-old joined the Reds for a potential club-record fee of £85m earlier this summer.

The Uruguayan had a decent start to his Liverpool career, scoring in the FA Community Shield Final against Manchester City. A goal and an assist in the Reds’ first league game against Fulham further boosted his start to life on Merseyside.

But since then, most things have been subpar for the striker. A red card in the game against Crystal Palace saw him miss out on three league games. But even since his return, Darwin has not been able to cement his place as Roberto Firmino has been in decent form.

It has not been an easy transition to Liverpool colours for Darwin, as from six appearances he only has two goals and an assist. Even though these numbers are not as bad as they are made out to be, for an £85m striker, the fans would’ve expected more.

Micah Richards, in his column for Daily Mail, believes that Darwin is much better than what the fans have seen so far this season.

“People tried to make a battle between Haaland and Darwin Nunez but I don’t think that was ever realistic. Nunez — who is much better than he has shown so far, believe me — needs time at Liverpool but Haaland is going places quicker than any of us could have imagined”

Nunez’s form is not a major worry

The former Manchester City fullback thinks that Darwin would perform much better as he adapts to life in the Premier League and will perform better than he has been until now.

There is arguably a media narrative running comparing two of the most hyped signings this summer. Erling Haaland of Manchester City and Darwin. Even though Nunez performed better when the two teams faced off, Haaland has been a revelation in the Premier League, scoring almost at will.

The international break was a good one for Nunez, wherein he scored a goal against Canada. He would hope to carry on that form into Liverpool colours as well.

Liverpool play Brighton and Hove Albion on 1 October and Darwin would hope to start the game ahead of Firmino and Diogo Jota and get himself in scoring form. He arrived from Benfica with a big reputation and it is expected that people, given the fee and his hype, would direct a lot of spotlight on his performances.
