Liverpool eyeing a move for 18-year-old dubbed the new Erling Haaland

Liverpool eying ‘next Erling Haaland’ in Andreas Schjelderup

According to Italian publication Calciomercato (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are targeting 18-year-old Norwegian striker Andreas Schjelderup of FC Nordsjælland. The youngster, in 10 league appearances this season, already has five goals and one assist.

Schjelderup is the ‘next Erling Haaland’ as per the press in Norway. Liverpool are one of the clubs inquisitive about the striker along with Arsenal, Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan and Juventus.

The striker runs out of contract at his club in 2024. Nordsjælland value him at about £17.5m and he could be available at a cut price this summer window. As it would be the last chance his club would have to cash in on the player.

The striker had rejected a move to Liverpool back in 2020 though, stating it was an opportunity to play for a first-team rather than playing for the age group academies abroad.

It is not something new for Liverpool to nurture young talent and then provide them with an opportunity with the first team. The likes of Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton of late have seen the transition from the age group teams to playing for Liverpool at the highest level.

Although he has not made his debut for the national team yet, it may not be long before he is handed his opportunity. Additionally, Schjelderup can also play the left wing giving a bit of versatility up front.

One could only tell with time whether Schjelderup could actually emulate his Norwegian counterpart Erling Haaland’s numbers, but in case he does so, we hope that it would be in the beautiful red of Merseyside.
