Liverpool willing to include Joe Gomez in deal to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio
According to Italian outlet CalcioMercatoWeb (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are willing to include centre-back Joe Gomez in the deal to try and sign Serbian midfield general Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio.
Liverpool are very much interested in signing Milinkovic-Savic from the Italian club but they are not alone in their interest. A number of top clubs around the world like Juventus, AC Milan, Manchester United and Chelsea also want the talented midfielder.
Still just 27, it feels like the Serbian has been around forever. Milinkovic-Savic is one of the most underrated players in the world. He puts in consistent performances week in and week out season after season that largely goes unnoticed outside of the Serie A.
The Serbian midfielder joined Lazio from Genk in 2015 and has since then been a key player for the Italian club ever since. Now in his eighth season at the club, he is still as important as he used to be for Lazio.
Even this season, the 27-year-old has started off just like how he usually does, playing 11 games for the Italian club across all competitions scoring four goals and providing five assists until now.
Second in the assist charts just behind Gerard Deulofeu, there is no doubt that Milinkovic-Savic will have yet another excellent season with Lazio. The 27-year-old has a contract with Lazio until 2024 (transfermarkt) and he is yet to pen down a new deal.
This means that if the Serbian midfielder decides not to extend his deal with Lazio, he could be available for a cut-price deal come the summer. A player of Milinkovic-Savic’s quality doesn’t come around often and many clubs will want to pounce on the deal.
It is absolutely no secret that Liverpool are looking to reinforce their midfield. It is in dire need of a fresh injection of legs and signing a player like the Serbian who is just entering the prime years of his career will be an unbelievable acquisition.
