Liverpool give injury update on Luis Diaz and Trent after Arsenal loss

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gives injury update on Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold after Arsenal loss

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold and winger Luis Diaz were two injury casualties in our demoralising 3-2 loss against Arsenal at the Emirates.

The England international picked up a knock in the first half and was subbed off at half-time for Joe Gomez to come in. The Colombian superstar, meanwhile, could not last until even the half-time whistle.

He was replaced by Roberto Firmino in the 42nd minute, who actually scored eight minutes into the second half to make the score 2-2. Speaking after the game (h/t BBC

“He [Trent Alexander-Arnold] is injured unfortunately. Like Luis Diaz as well, it doesn’t look good for both. That is the icing on the cake…”

The severity and the extent of these injury issues will be known in due time. Until then, there lies an uncertainty that we could be without two of our most important creative outlets for a while.

Gomez is a good right-back but he obviously doesn’t have that vision and passing range that Trent does. Diaz, meanwhile, has undoubtedly been our best player since the start of the season.

The next task isn’t the toughest in the world – a UEFA Champions League clash against Rangers. However, it can’t be taken lightly as the cup competitions are quite possibly our only chance of winning something.

The Gunners may falter but Man City seriously look unstoppable with Erling Haaland firing on all cylinders. We have seen miracles as Liverpool fans in the past, but winning the league now will require something greater than that.

The January window will offer a chance to Fenway Sports Group (FSG) to back the manager if he does need players – which he undoubtedly does. Our competition is passing us by while we sit still.
