“Now I saw it”- Jurgen Klopp gives his thoughts on Arsenal’s penalty vs Liverpool

Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp talks about his opinion about the penalty against Arsenal

Jurgen Klopp would be a worrying figure after the 3-2 loss against Arsenal at The Emirates. Mikel Arteta’s men, coming into this game were in sublime form, and post this win, they lead the Premier League points table.

Liverpool’s change of tactic playing the 4-4-2 against an in-form midfield consisting of Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard meant that Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson had a tough task ahead of them. Understandably, the game was no picnic for the pair, and the former was also guilty of giving away a penalty.

Speaking of that, one could argue that referee Michael Oliver rather gave away a harsh penalty to the Gunners. Bukayo Saka was clinical to put the Gunners in the lead for one last time in the game, but Klopp talked to BBC

about the rather “soft” decision.

“The situation around the penalty, of course we should have cleared it. Now I saw it and I think you can imagine I don’t think it is a clear penalty, it is a very soft one. I think it is a situation where the referee should have another look at it in real time.”

Tough Road ahead for Liverpool

Gabriel Jesus caught Thiago’s foot on his heel and probably took a chance by falling over. The referee was not even reluctant while making his decision, which shockingly did not see its way to VAR.

There is now no point in crying over spilt milk. But analysing what the Reds could have control over, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold did not have the best game. These are two world-class players who are certainly not playing at the level they can this season.

Hopefully, this is just a blip in their form, and there is some talk about it behind the scenes at the club in the aspiration to see this duo back at their usual best. Seeing the positive side of things about this game, Liverpool did well to take their goals, and it was refreshing to see Darwin Nunez on the scoresheet after what feels like a decade.

Moreover, with the injury situations of Luis Diaz and Trent not looking good at the moment, the immediate set of fixtures certainly does not look great for Liverpool. It will prove to be a great test of Jurgen Klopp’s abilities to turn things around from a point like this, where we seem headed to absolutely nowhere.
