“He was correct wasn’t he”- Jurgen Klopp finds unlikely ally in this PL manager after Liverpool red card

David Moyes backs Jurgen Klopp after red card against Manchester City

In Liverpool’s match against Manchester City earlier this week, referee Anthony Taylor decided to let play continue even after a clear foul on Mohamed Salah by Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese pulled Mo’s shirt and even appeared to elbow him. Jurgen Klopp‘s extensive rant from the touchline for the same saw him receive a red card from Taylor.

The foul was as clear as the skies from the Atacama Desert and one could argue that Klopp was in the right for appealing a blatant foul. But Taylor thought otherwise and reprimanded the German manager for the same.

West Ham United manager David Moyes believes that his Liverpool counterpart was not in the wrong to appeal and also said that emotions are high during the 90 minutes of the game.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Liverpool fixture, here is what Moyes had to say about the Klopp incident as quoted by football.london

“I don’t think you should really be asking me a question about Jurgen Klopp because I can’t speak for Jurgen Klopp. If you ask me a question about managers, yes, I am really keen to talk about that. “

” For 90 minutes or so, it becomes a really emotional game. Sometimes, you can change your character from maybe what your true character is, but I think if we stood there and did nothing, I think our supporters, the public, you, would probably the questioning why not. Actually, I think if you look at the incident why he got angry, he was correct wasn’t he? “

The foul was as earlier mentioned, as clear as daylight, and it seems from his comments that Moyes does not have a different opinion about the same. Bittersweet for Klopp though, as he was shown a red, but the team got full points. Knowing the German, the card would have hardly mattered in the bigger picture for the man.

Consistent decision-making from the referees in the Premier League is something which lacks. Besides, efforts should be in place to maintain a certain standard of decision-making by the ones in charge to maintain the quality of the English top tier.

Emotions run high during the game, and Klopp himself, after the game admitted

that he went “over the top” with his ranting, but felt that there was no intent of disrespect from him towards the match officials.

The camaraderie and the agreements will be halted for a few hours tonight when Klopp and Moyes will lock horns at Anfield in the league fixture. After a confidence-boosting win vs Manchester City, the Reds would be eager to build on the same against the Hammers.
