Liverpool receive double injury boost ahead of Ajax clash

Naby Keita and Ibrahima Konate return to Liverpool training along with Darwin Nunez

Darwin Nunez also took part in open training on Tuesday, after the Uruguayan missed the last game after tweaking his hamstring during his sides 1-0 win over West Ham last week.

The trio’s return has handed Liverpool a major injury boost ahead of their trip to the Netherlands. Avoiding defeat on the night will see the Reds qualify for the last 16.

Konate has missed the last three matches for the club with a muscle injury, while Keita has not featured since Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield in July due to illness and thigh injury.

Most notable absentee is Thiago. The Spaniard missed his side’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest last Saturday due to a ear infection. It seems he has not recovered yet and could likely miss the game against Ajax.

While such a injury boost will come as good news to Jurgen Klopp, there are still a lot of players who are out injured. Joel Matip

was missing and is unlikely to return until just before the World Cup.

Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Arthur Melo are long-term absentees and have already been ruled out until 2023. Their absence is no doubt a major setback for the club and Klopp.

It remains to be seen who all make play against the Dutch side this Wednesday. Liverpool just need one point to secure their place in the last 16 of this season’s Champions League, though fans will hope for a victory like the 2-1 at home last month.
