“Most beautiful stadiums” – Napoli defender opens up about playing at Anfield

Napoli defender Mario Rui calls Anfield one of the ‘most beautiful stadiums’

Speaking in an interview ahead of the Champions League clash between Liverpool and Napoli as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Napoli defender Mario Rui has called Anfield one of the ‘most beautiful stadiums’.

The Portuguese left-back is likely to line up in the Napoli defence when the high-flying Italians take on Jurgen Klopp’s men in their own backyard and look to get out of the group as leaders.

The Gli Azzurri have been absolutely sensational this season. They are unbeaten across all competitions and there seems to be absolutely no way to stop Luciano Spalletti’s side on current form.

They have a perfect record in the Champions League this season with five wins from five games played which included a 4-0 trashing of Liverpool in the first game of the competition at Naples.

Even if Liverpool were to win today, they might still end up finishing second to Napoli as they will have to score at least five goals tonight without a response against the Italian side to emerge as group toppers.

That said, there is a lot at stake for Liverpool when they take on Napoli tonight. They have been having a very poor season by their lofty standards and losses like the ones against Nottingham Forest and Leeds United have really haunted them.

Speaking about the prospect of playing at Anfield, Mario Rui has admitted that the atmosphere could be daunting.

“It’s one of the most beautiful stadiums I’ve had the chance to play in. It’s a really nice atmosphere, any player likes to play at Anfield.”

On current form, it seems almost impossible for any club to stop Napoli but if any club can do that, it has to be Liverpool. The Reds have enough pedigree to overcome the Italians and it remains to be seen if we can do that.

One big problem for Liverpool this season is how exposed they have been defensively and the scintillating Napoli attack is more than capable of breaking apart the Reds defence into shreds at every opportunity.

The Reds have a daunting task facing them tonight and it remains to be seen if they can emerge victorious. It looks extremely difficult but a win will give them a lot of confidence for the season ahead.
