Carragher gives examples of two players who prove why Liverpool should sign €150m midfielder

Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher asks club to spend big on Jude Bellingham

While speaking to Sky Sports’ The Overlap (h/t The Express), Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher believes the signings of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker are prime examples for Liverpool to spend big on Jude Bellingham.

“When Liverpool have spent big money in the past, it’s been on the goalkeeper (Alisson) and Virgil Van Dijk, who were bought in at great age profiles.

Signing Jude Bellingham would be for a lot of money, but it would get to two years down the line and people would see it as a bargain. At his age, you’d have him for at least five seasons before he’d move on, which is a great investment for the club.”

Van Dijk was signed from Southampton for a fee of £75million in 2018 while Alisson had a transfer from AS Roma for £67m  and they instantly took the club to another level with their arrival.

Van Dijk went on to become a wall at the back, which was missing from the club for far too long while Alisson provided the perfect balance of technique and awareness to solidify himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the world.

Liverpool ready to go ‘all-in’ for long-term transfer target Jude Bellingham.

Carragher believes Jude Bellingham has the capacity to make a similar impact on the team and hence the club should not think twice before spending big on the young prodigy, who is touted to be one of the most highly-rated talents currently in world football.

Jurgen Klopp had been searching for a dynamic box-to-box midfielder, something that has been missing since the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum.

Liverpool were heavily interested in Aurelien Tchouameni before the player decided to move to Real Madrid and arguably since then, Bellingham has been touted as the primary target to solve their ageing midfield issue.

Bellingham certainly adds a new dimension to the squad with his constant threat to the goal from midfield. This season alone, he has contributed to 11 goals in 21 games for Borussia Dortmund.

There is no end to the ceiling that the England international can reach and there are heavy speculations that he could make the official squad for the FIFA World Cup, his value is only going to rise up and generate more interest.

Hence, we would have to be at our absolute best come the 2023 summer transfer window for us to have any chance of landing the midfielder with Real Madrid, Manchester City and Manchester United all set to compete with us for the player who could cost even €150m .
