“We’re not favourites” – Liverpool star talks about Uruguay’s chances at World Cup

Liverpool star Darwin Nunez believes Uruguay are not favourites for the World Cup

Speaking in an interview with Reuters as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Liverpool star Darwin Nunez believes that Uruguay are not favourites for the World Cup in Qatar but they will put up a valiant fight and give it their all.

One thing that we can always be sure about the Uruguayan team is their sheer passion and determination on the pitch. They never give anything below their 100 per cent and this is one reason they can be regarded as dark horses for this tournament.

Uruguay have an impressive striker contingent. In attack, they have veteran strikers like Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani along with the very impressive young Darwin Nunez who has impressed for Liverpool.

They have a beast like Federico Valverde in midfield. The Real Madrid man is in one of his best moments career-wise and he will be hoping to carry his club form and goal-scoring form into the Qatar tournament.

As always, the Uruguayan team has an impressive list of defenders, which has always been their strong suit. Although not world-class, they are more than capable of holding their own on a given day.

Speaking about his country’s chances in the World Cup, here is what Nunez said about his team’s chances.

“We come here and we know that we’re not favourites, but we’re going to fight. Four years ago I watched the tournament on TV and now I’m here with all the beasts. This has only just begun.”

If Uruguay are to have a good World Cup in Qatar, they will be heavily reliant on Darwin Nunez to keep scoring goals for them. He is one of their most important players and will be leading the attack along with Suarez.

The boy earmarked to take the legacy of Suarez and Cavani, Nunez can show the world what he is capable of when he plays in the World Cup. If he can have a good time there, it augurs well for Liverpool who will have a striker brimming with confidence upon return.

Nunez is the present and future of Liverpool. Let’s hope he can have a good World Cup with Uruguay.
