“Tottenham and West Ham were also pushing”- Romano explains how Liverpool beat three clubs to 25-year-old star this year

Fabrizio Romano claims that Liverpool fought off Barcelona, West Ham and Tottenham to land Luis Diaz

In his exclusive CaughtOffside column, Fabrizio Romano stated how Liverpool got the better of FC Barcelona, West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur to land Luis Diaz from FC Porto.

Romano claims

that Porto had a sum in their mind the payment was enough for them to be at ease with the Columbian international but Barcelona were not ready to pay for it.

For Spurs and West Ham, it is believed that Jurgen Klopp’s talks with the player were enough to convince him that moving to Anfield is the best option available.

“My understanding is that Barcelona had conversations with the player’s agents but it was never got to an advanced stage between the clubs as Porto wanted a €60m package for him.

There was also interest from others – Tottenham and West Ham were also pushing – but in the end Klopp and Liverpool’s plans made the difference.”

Luis Diaz has been a sensational replacement for Sadio Mane at Liverpool.

Everyone was aware of the scary potential Diaz has from this time at Porto but the manner in which he took the Premier League by storm surprised everyone.

Having entered the club in the January transfer window, Dias quickly integrated himself with the first team and went forward towards establishing a claim in the starting eleven.

Such was the player’s form that Klopp had to resolve to a new attacking formation which included Sadio Mane playing as a false nine to accommodate his top three attackers.

Luis Diaz is a superstar at Liverpool already.

Before his injury, Dias was in sublime form and many could argue that he was our best season in an otherwise disappointing start to the season.

His injury had a big impact on the way we create our attacks from the left and was definitely missed in the games where we failed to break an opponent down.

Hopefully, the player recovers fully from his injury soon and comes back all guns blazing post the World Cup. Liverpool can really do with the Colombian’s dynamism in the second half of the campaign.
