Transfer News: Liverpool have done ‘major work’ on two midfielders including Konrad Laimer

Liverpool have done ‘major work’ on transfer targets Ruben Neves and Konrad Laimer

Amidst calls from fans for a complete midfield overhaul, Liverpool have done ‘major work’ on two of their transfer targets ahead of the January transfer window. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ruben Neves and RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer are two of the biggest names who see themselves linked with a move to Merseyside.

Both players are aged 25 and have their best footballing years ahead of them. As per TEAMTalk

via Liverpool Echo, the Reds have done their homework on the duo and could possibly land them as early as the upcoming transfer window, post the World Cup wherein Neves will represent Portugal. Laimer’s Austria, however, could not qualify for the event.

Neves’ contract runs until the summer of 2024 and Laimer will become a free agent next summer. As far as Laimer is concerned, Leipzig would know the fact that they might lose him for free next summer, and hence, could possibly make him available at a cut price this January. In 167 appearances across all competitions, he has 11 goals and 18 assists for the German club.

Neves and Laimer headed to Liverpool?

Speaking of the Wolves’ captain, his club is currently in a relegation battle and the management could want to avoid letting go of one of their best players in such a crucial juncture.

However, a call from a big club like Liverpool is something uncommon and hence, they could be in two minds in that sense. The player would also fancy the opportunity of playing in the UEFA Champions League. In 228

appearances for the West Midlands outfit, Neves has 28 goals and 12 assists.

Liverpool’s midfield situation is that of an ageing squad and extremely inconsistent performances. The manager would be keen to improvise in the middle of the park, and no better way than to introduce a new player or two to the club.

Moreover, the contracts of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain expire next summer and Klopp would be eager to make long-term replacements for the duo, who in the most likely of situations, will not get a contract extension.

Keeping that in mind, it is absolutely essential that a new and established midfielder arrives at the club next summer. The fans have been wanting a midfielder for the longest time and also, the current season goes on to show the need for a new body in the middle of the park.
