Speaking post England’s 6-2 win over Iran in the opening game of the FIFA World Cup, Arsenal legend Ian Wright while speaking to ITV Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo) believes that it is the right time for Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham to head to the Premier League.
“We’re seeing it now at 19, he’s gone to Germany and developed, we’re seeing a fantastic, mature guy who is close.
“Being captain there is a brilliant accolade, as good as the German league is, I feel it’s maybe time to get him in the Premier League. If he’s gone there to get to a level, he’s there.”
Wright is regarded as one of the best forwards to play in the Premier League and is confident that Bellingham is ready for the intensity of the league after having spent two successful years in Germany.
Marking his debut in the FIFA World Cup against Iran, Bellingham was exceptional from the midfield and capped it off with a brilliant-headed goal to add a new share to his rapidly rising stock.
While the hype surrounding them started way before with his time at Birmingham City, it is at Dortmund where he has truly come on his own and established a name for himself, which not only earned him a call-up to the World Cup and if the first game is anything to go by, is definitely part of Gareth Southgate’s plans.
Like Wright, many are predicting Bellingham to make a move to a top team in the summer transfer window with Liverpool also one of the seriously interested clubs in acquiring the signature of the midfielder.
We are in dire need of a midfield rebuild and the club has made signing a top midfielder on priority for the next season, Bellingham is one of the primary targets being looked at.
Manchester United have also been rumoured to be interested in the player and it would definitely be a tough bidding war to land the teenager.
We would need to be on our toes and do everything possible to secure his signing as he is definitely a top player in the making and has already shown lots of qualities way beyond his age.
