Liverpool star Darwin Nunez suffers injury scare ahead of Uruguay vs South Korea

Liverpool and Uruguay superstar forward Darwin Nunez suffered an injury scare in training ahead of the country’s opening game against South Korea in the Qatar World Cup 2022, according to Liverpool Echo.

Nunez, however, is expected to be fine after he returned to the field to complete training. The 23-year-old had an issue with his ankle, but he is expected to be fit for the game against South Korea in a couple of days.

Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica in the summer and has since then gone on to slowly yet surely grow into the team. His performances have only kept getting better and he goes into the 2022 FIFA World Cup in good form.

In 18 matches for the club across all competitions this season, Nunez has scored nine goals and provided two assists. He has also won 13 caps for Uruguay in which he has scored three goals until now.

Uruguay have a number of talented strikers in the squad like Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez but Nunez is also very crucial to their team. He gets a lot of game time and they will be depending on him for goals.

Uruguay are a team who are going under the radar this World Cup. Whilst they might not be genuine contenders as such, there is no doubt that they have what it takes to cause some upsets along the way.

Paired in the same group as Portugal and South Korea, it will not be easy for Uruguay but they have enough firepower within their squad to be able to find a way to at least finish second behind mighty Portugal.

Nunez has a golden chance to show his abilities on the biggest stage there is world football. If he can put in performances of significance in these games, he will return to Anfield a more confident man.

A confident Nunez means more goals for Liverpool. Let’s hope the 23-year-old shines for his country and eventually for his club as well. This could be a career-defining tournament for a man seen as the man to lead Uruguay’s attack after Suarez and Cavani retire.
