“First to come forward was Liverpool”- France star at 2022 FIFA World Cup explains decision to snub the Reds

French star Aurelian Tchouameni reveals why he chose Real Madrid over Liverpool

Speaking in an interview with French news outlet Le Parisien as quoted by Liverpool Echo, French star Aurelian Tchouameni who is at the Qatar 2022 World Cup with his national team has revealed why he chose to move to Real Madrid despite first being approached by Liverpool.

Tchouameni, who was playing for AS Monaco back then was one of the heavily sought-after prospects in world football. A number of clubs were linked with the talented defensive midfielder including Liverpool and PSG.

Ultimately, it was the Spanish giants Real Madrid who ended up signing the prodigiously talented youngster. At Madrid, Tchouameni has found himself thrust open with a starting role all of a sudden.

When Tchouameni signed for Carlo Ancelotti’s team, it was expected that he would play second-fiddle to the Brazilian midfielder destroyer Casemiro and learn from him before taking over in the future.

However, with Casemiro leaving Real Madrid and joining Manchester United in a shock transfer, Tchouameni suddenly found himself at the forefront of everything and he is the main man in defensive midfield.

Speaking about his decision to choose Real Madrid despite being approached by Liverpool first, Tchouameni said the Spanish club was always his priority.

“The first to come forward was Liverpool. We had discussions. Then Real arrived. And in my head everything was clear. It was Real and not another. It’s the biggest club in the world.

Tchouameni now finds himself in the national squad with France and in the absence of N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba, it is up to him and his club teammate Eduardo Camavinga to make sure Les Blues don’t miss their dynamic duo in midfield.

Despite all his exploits at the club level, the World Cup is the biggest stage for Tchouameni to show his talent. If he can have a good time in Qatar, then many people will start taking notice of the 22-year-old.

The sky is the limit for Tchouameni with respect to where he can reach in his career. It’s a loss for Liverpool that we could not sign him but let’s hope the Frenchman can live up to the potential that we identified before anyone else did.
