Liverpool defender and Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk posted a simple message on Instagram as his team qualified for the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 after beating Qatar 2-0.
Van Dijk has been tasked with the duty of leading his nation at the FIFA World Cup after the country failed to qualify in the previous tournament.
Certainly, the new-look Dutch side under Louis Van Gaal looks like a proper team and capable of challenging any opposition at the World Cup.
Van Dijk, after a disappointing start to the season with Liverpool, looks back to his best while playing for the national team and looks comfortable playing with three central defenders.
After a draw against Ecuador in their second game, a win was needed against Qatar to boost the team’s chances of heading into the next round. Van Dijk and Co. rightly did so.
Tougher tests await the Liverpool defender in the next round but we all are aware of the qualities that the Dutchman possesses which would be a big asset for his national team.
Since his move from Southampton, Van Dijk has gone on to establish himself as one of the best defenders in the league and has gone from strength to strength.
He is a key part of Klopp’s plans for the team and is a leader in the dressing room. Alongside Alisson Becker has made Liverpool’s defence a wall making it tough for the opposition to make inroads.
Hopefully, we get to see more of the charismatic Dutchman return to his best and lead the Liverpool defence back to it’s glory days.
