Liverpool academy graduate and city local Michael Laffey has put pen to paper to sign his first professional contract with the club. Laffey has been a regular sight at the age-group squads ever since the age of 10 when he moved from Everton.
The 17-year-old central midfielder can also play in defensive midfield and has three assists from 12 appearances for the U18 squad across all competitions this season.
Similar to Academy seniors Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominic Corness, Laffey is a threat from set pieces and is often the preferred player behind a static ball. Marc Bridge-Wilkinson is a fan of his game awareness and passing skills in the middle of the park.
A number of Academy Graduates are presently travelling with the first team in Dubai in a mid-season training camp and the future stars will enjoy their time around the regulars and learn as much as possible in their time around the superstars.
Hopefully, he lives up to his contract and delivers the performances week in and week out. As we have seen in the past with first-team gaffer Jurgen Klopp, the German never shies away from providing an opportunity for youngsters to prove their talents on the big stage from time to time.
In view of the fact that there are plenty of Cup games left in the campaign this year, one could in all likelihood expect players from the Academy make their debuts for the first team sooner than later.
Tommy Pilling, Kyle Kelly and Ben Doak are also among the academy stars who signed their first pro contract with the Reds this season, and they would hope to shine whenever given the opportunity.
Carabo Cup and the FA Cup have proven to be two competitions where they youngster are thhe likeliest to get senior minutes, and the Reds are alive in both the competitions this campaign.
