Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp keen on bringing Napoli midfielder Eljif Elmas to Anfield
The Reds’ problems in midfield this season have been no secret and Liverpool are keen to bring about a change to that by bringing in a player to two in the middle of the park. Napoli’s North Macedonian attacking midfielder Eljif Elmas sees himself on Jurgen Klopp’s Christmas List.
According to the Italian outlet Calciomercato, Elmas, whose contract at Napoli lasts until 2024 (Transfermarkt) is the latest entrant on the list of Liverpool transfer targets and the 23-year-old could be a decent addition to the Reds’ side.
Elmas is an extremely versatile player who is a natural number 10 and can play central midfield as well. He has 14 goals and nine assists in 146 appearances for Napoli across all competitions ever since his transfer to the Serie A side from Fenerbahce back in 2019.
Elmas to the Reds?
The players of Elmas’ profile are going down in number in the general football world. Having a Number 10 is not something teams in the Modern Day fancy but still, it gives a sense of having something different.
Elmas’ creativity is something Liverpool could enjoy. The Reds have been too static in midfield with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho not offering much of a creative output. At times, Harvey Elliott and mostly Thiago Alcantara provide the much-needed spark from midfield but the Reds could do with more from the central areas of the pitch.
Klopp is also said to be a very big fan of the player, and called Elmas directly, telling him to see him and want him at Liverpool. With his valuation around €25m-€30m, the transfer business also would not be a big burden on the Reds, and Jurgen Klopp will have a player he likes on his hands in Merseyside.
For the most part of the current campaign, the Reds have seen themselves struggling to pull the strings in midfield, and hence, a quality addition or two might help reduce the workload on some of the players and give the backline a breather at the same time as well.

Elmas would be playing in a completely new league if he joins us but at his age and given his ability, it’s a risk worth taking. That being said, the Macedonian should be a signing that complements another world-class arrival in midfield. Jude Bellingham or Enzo Fernandez… anyone?
