“Play your best football”- Klopp lavishes praise on three Liverpool stars following Leicester win

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praises three individual performances in the win against Leicester City

A below-average performance from Liverpool was luckily enough for the Reds to get a 2-1 win against Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City last night. Three goals in the game, all from Leicester’s players and defender Wout Faes un/fortunately scored two own goals, giving the win to the Merseysiders on a plate.

However, a few individual performances were excellent from the Reds and worth commending in an otherwise eerie game as it is essential to talk about individuals having a good game, rather than only talking about it when the players are not having a good time on the pitch.

The performances of Darwin Nunez, Thiago Alcantara

and Trent Alexander-Arnold were on a different wavelength to the rest of the Reds as the rest of the players did not necessarily match their levels on the night.

Tough to recall a below-average performance from Thiago in a Liverpool shirt and hence, having a good game for him is nothing new. However, it was refreshing to see the likes of Trent and Darwin show tremendous mental strength amid the constant criticism they face to do well against a Leicester side who until Anfield, had not lost a game away from home in the entirety of the season. Here is what gaffer Jurgen Klopp said about the trio via Liverpool.com

:

“Darwin Núñez had a brilliant performance tonight. Thiago [Alcântara] was good. Trent did really well. In an intense period, you have to win the games where you don’t play your best football.”

A solid shift from the Reds

With Darwin, it is only about time. With the runs he makes and the positions he finds himself in, the goals will definitely come his way if he works on his finishing a little bit. Rest assured, Nunez will for sure become an absolute superstar.

Even in the second of their own goals, Trent and Darwin combined beautifully to somewhat force the error from Faes. Moreover, the pair combined on one occasion with Nunez taking a shot off Trent’s cross which eventually deflected behind Danny Ward.

There won’t be many people talking about Trent’s defensive game today, as it would certainly not fit into the idea of him being a bad defender. Nevertheless, it was a performance from the Reds to introspect and try to pass better in midfield as this performance was a harsh reminder of why we stand linked with Jude Bellingham.

More Liverpool News

Without doubt, the Reds need to improve their performances and make a better case for themselves to finish in a Champions League spot come the end of the season. Next up is a trip to London to face Brentford, and the Merseysiders would certainly hope to better their last visit there wherein the game was a closely contested 3-3 draw.
