Transfer News: Liverpool transfer target Enzo Fernandez ‘very close’ to joining Chelsea

Liverpool transfer target and SL Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez is ‘very close’ to joining Premier League rivals Chelsea, according to Sky Sports Italy (h/t Liverpool Echo).

It is being claimed that the 21-year-old will make a move to the west London club for a whopping fee worth €127 million

Chelsea have struggled in the middle of the park this season and currently sit ninth on the table with 25 points, three behind us as we sit sixth. They have, however, played a game less than us.

Jurgen Klopp’s midfield is in dire need of some young and talented players. The likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Naby Keita cannot be considered good enough to start games for us this season.

Other midfielders like Fabinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all struggled for fitness and form, costing us some dear points this season and effectively pushing us out of a title race this season.

Fernandez has seen his stock rise after his excellent performance for Argentina at the World Cup in Qatar helped them lift the trophy. The 21-year-old, who joined Benfica in the summer has also been excellent for them so far.

A regular, the box-to-box midfielder has played in 25 games for them in all competitions, scoring three and registering another five assists in the process. He would have made an instant upgrade to the current midfielder we have.

However, it seems our rivals have won the race for his signature. It will be wise to shift focus on other targets. With the transfer window just getting opened, it remains to be seen if the Reds do add any new face to their midfield.
