“The world’s best”- Former Liverpool ace opens up on facing the Reds

Former Liverpool star Adam Lallana talks about facing the Reds for Brighton

After the win against Aston Villa in the league re-opener after the international break, many would have been quick to jump on the gun to declare that Liverpool are truly back. However, fate and their own style of play had something totally different planned out for the Merseysiders.

A narrow escape against Leicester followed, in which the Reds saw the win handed to them on a plate by Wout Faes’ two own goals. Nothing was learnt from the average performance in that game as what came along was a 3-1 away defeat to Brentford wherein the Reds were absolutely horrendous.

A 2-2 draw against Wolves in another lacklustre performance means that Liverpool are far away from their best. A league fixture against a strong Brighton side follows this weekend. Leandro Trossard scored an Anfield hat-trick in the last meetup between the sides and they will certainly prove to be a tough opposition.

Adam Lallana, now an integral part of Brighton’s side was one of Jurgen Klopp’s most trusted men and an important figure in the initial few years of the Klopp era at Liverpool. The 34-year-old central midfielder recently spoke to Sussex Live about taking on the Reds on the weekend in the league and here is what he said:

“It will be an extremely tough game, regardless of the results they have had lately or whatever they have shown they are in a good moment. They have such strong players but we want to test ourselves against the world’s best. [We have a] Good week to prepare for that,”

In 178 appearances for the Reds over six seasons, Lallana scored 22 goals and got as many assists across all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Even though most of his career was injury-laid, he stood out as one of the few midfielders at the Reds who were a ‘visual treat’.

However, keeping the past aside, facing a strong Brighton side is not easy even when we are at the top of our game, let alone during this stage where it is difficult for Liverpool to stitch two passes without the risk of an interception.

It is just modest of Lallana to say that it “will” be a tough game, as Wolves, not very long ago, scored two past our full-strength team, with many notable first-team members on the bench for the Midlanders. However, we hope that his words are true, and we give them a tough game and possibly, win the match as well which could be a big boost to the confidence of the players amid a tough run of games for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

More Liverpool News:

A win would take us two points closer to Tottenham Hotspur, who are fifth on the table above us, and hopefully, if we get going and accumulate more points as the season goes by, we could see ourselves finishing in a UCL spot. However, the current form does not surely justify a position for the Reds in the competition.
