Liverpool have added Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski to the list of potential targets
Another day and another midfielder being linked with the club. This time, according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti (h/t Liverpool Echo), it is SSC Napoli stalwart Piotr Zielinski who is the latest name on Liverpool’s wishlist.
It is no secret that we are in the market for one, maybe two midfielders to revamp an ageing midfielder which currently consists of veterans in James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara.
Hence, a handful of names have since been linked with the club to solve the deficit and Zeilensk is the latest name on the list.
We are all aware of the ability and potential of Polish International as he was instrumental in our 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Napoli in the opening group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
Since moving to Napoli in 2016, Zielinski has gone from strength to strength and now has notched up 304 appearances for the club, notching 46 goals and giving 40 assists in the process.
A very technically gifted player, he has all the attributes needed to succeed at the highest level and the player is already proving that with Napoli this season, who are currently top of Serie A.
Signing Zielinski would show a signal of intent from the owners but it certainly would not be an easy task, considering how well Napoli are doing and have a real chance of winning the Scudetto this season.
Hopefully, the situation can be revisited in the summer transfer window as the midfielder’s current contract at the Italian club ends on June 2024 (Transfermarkt), providing opportunities for other clubs to scoop in.

Napoli certainly would not want to sell their prized asset for a minimal amount or even a free transfer and hence if there is no contract extension between the parties, it certainly provides a good window to test Napoli’s resolve.
