“A really low point”- Klopp gives scathing verdict following Brighton humbling

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he cannot remember “a worse game” after the 3-0 Brighton loss

The Reds have certainly had poorer results than a 3-0 loss in the past but what made this particular squandering of points is the way Liverpool did not even try to win the game much to Jurgen Klopp and Co’s dismay. Credit where credit is due, Brighton’s performance stood absolutely spectacular at their home ground, but one would imagine the Reds to at least put up a better show than this.

Alisson Becker throughout the season has stood absolutely pivotal in goal for Liverpool and the Brazilian’s presence is one of the main reasons why we are not further down the points tally. There are obviously a few players who did not even look like they were playing for one of the best teams in the world but there is no use as such in calling out individual players instead of focusing on the team as a whole.

Understandably, Jurgen Klopp would have been disappointed, to say the least, with the way the players performed in the game. Folding his hands to the away end at the Amex, he displayed a sad demeanour that any fan could see.

Speaking of the game as a “low point” in his entire managerial career, here is what he told the press after full-time coming in via Liverpool Echo:

“It’s my job to make the right line-up and set up the right tactics,”.

“I had really nice moments doing that but, I’m not sure if it’s because it’s only a few minutes since the game, but I can’t remember a worse game.

“I honestly can’t and I mean all (my career) not only Liverpool and that’s my responsibility. So that makes it a really low point.”

Tough Road ahead for Liverpool

It was only two weeks ago that the Reds flew out of London on the back of another away loss to Brentford, but it seems like the players have not learnt anything from these losses and continue to not evolve their game, or make certain tweaks as per the situation.

On top of that, Liverpool play Real Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16 soon. Given this form, one would hope that the Madridistas play their age-group squads against us. A Twitter user noted that this set of games could prove to be the last time the Reds feature in that competition for a while so it is important to cherish watching those two games against Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

As it stands, reviving the current season seems unlikely. The team requires a significant overhaul and that should be the immediate focus for the management and more importantly, the American owners of the club.
