“Fortunately”- Carragher singles out one Liverpool player for praise after 3-0 loss vs Brighton

Jamie Carragher slams Liverpool defence in Twitter rant post disappointing Brighton loss

It was almost an established fact that Liverpool would have it tough to face Brighton & Hove Albion away from home on the weekend. Post the full-time whistle, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp folded his hands after what was an unacceptable performance from the Reds resulting in a 3-0 loss.

This match would have made it absolutely clear that there is an urgent need for reinforcements in the midfield and we cannot afford to continue with the same set of midfielders in the long-term future of the club. World-class signings are a must at the moment.

Moreover, the defenders were also not on their toes this game which made playing against a strong Albion side in Sussex tougher than it already was. Jamie Carragher, for one, was certainly not impressed with the performance and made it absolutely clear via Twitter

.

He singled out Alisson Becker for praise, he has been great this season and has saved us from conceding more goals and dropping more points this campaign. Even for the three goals against the Seagulls, there wasn’t a lot he could have done and made important saves whenever he could.

There is certainly no point in picking out individual players after this sad performance. One could go on and on about Jordan Henderson, but it is of no use when the whole team is on one tangent, and the keeper, who could virtually do nothing apart from obviously making top-class saves, is on another tangent. Jamie Carragher is absolutely right when he says whatever he did and as a Liverpool legend, he wants the best for the club.

Troubled times now and ahead?

All three goals we conceded saw huge gaps in between the lines. Roberto de Zerbi’s side could stand compared to a top-quality surgeon the way their players cut open Liverpool’s defence. Moreover, the transitional play almost felt like sixth-graders matched up against prime Barcelona. Brighton’s goalkeeper was probably the loneliest player during the game considering that nobody wanted to involve him in the game.

This puts Liverpool’s chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season in heavy jeopardy. The gap to the top-four spot also keeps increasing by the day and there is nothing the Reds are doing to make sure that we edge closer to a UCL spot.

The American owners are probably wondering why they see themselves tagged in almost every other social media post by the Liverpool supporters. There has not been enough investment from them, and Klopp has reached the saturation point with the current lot of players. The German gaffer has overachieved with the amount of money at his disposal, and at least his efforts deserve more investment.

From this point, it almost seems like nothing could be done to revive this season. What could the Reds do now? Make the blueprint for the next season and beyond as this team certainly needs a major reshuffle.
