Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher reveals how the win restores some lost confidence

Speaking to LFC TV (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has claimed that the team has restored some of the lost confidence after the win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Reds secured their route to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a third-round replay win over Wolves on Tuesday. It was a hard, grafting 1-0 win from a second-string side consisting of a number of youngsters, including Kelleher in goal.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will now face Brighton and Hove Albion in the next round away at the Amex Stadium next Sunday. It was the mauling defeat at the hands of the Seagulls on Saturday that bruised the confidence of the team badly.

Here’s what Kelleher, who is the backup goalkeeper to Alisson Becker when the Brazilian is fit and available, said after the win over Wolves (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“We are all human so it’s natural everybody is a little bit low on confidence right now, especially given the result we had at the weekend. But I think getting a clean sheet and a win will fill us full of confidence and hopefully we can use this result to push on.

“It was a hard-fought away win. Coming here is not easy. Sometimes you just need to grind out results and that’s what we did. We showed some great character.”

Questions were asked about the team and Klopp after that 3-0 humbling to Brighton last Saturday. The manager made eight changes for the Wolves and got a tune out of the fringe and young players.

Now, given how well the likes of Stefan Bajcetic and Harvey Elliott played on Tuesday, and how poorly Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have been playing, will Klopp go with the youngsters for the big league game against Chelsea at the weekend?

Whatever it is, the win must have been good for the confidence of the team. The next step would be to start being consistent and get the wins under the belt. We are languishing ninth in the table, but with still 20 league games to go.

So, a lot of football is yet to be played. If the Wolves result could act as a game-changer, we might see a better version of Liverpool for the next four months. The only downer is that there aren’t any signings expected in this window. So, the current squad has to fight through the remaining challenges.
