Jurgen Klopp confirms what he told Liverpool about Roberto Firmino’s contract situation

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaks on Roberto Firmino and his future at the club

Roberto Firmino runs out his contract in June later this year (Transfermarkt) and Liverpool have to sort that situation out with the Brazilian. With his injury issues, there have been a few calls of letting the player depart the club at the end of the current campaign, but surprisingly, Bobby has been one of the better performers for the Reds in an otherwise below-average season.

In 21

appearances across all competitions this season, the former Hoffenheim striker has nine goals and four assists to his name and before his present injury, the player looked in absolutely fantastic touch but unfortunately, the rest of the team, was not necessarily on the same tangent as he was.

The manager Jurgen Klopp was quick to be direct on his stance on Bobby’s contract situation and spoke about how he wants the Brazilian international to stay at the club beyond his present contract as he told the club’s official website.

“I said that before: yes, I want to keep him at the club.”

Firmino is a key player for Liverpool, both on and off the field. He brings a unique combination of skills to the team, with his vision, movement, and work rate making him an important link between the midfield and attack.

He also has a great understanding of the game and is able to make clever runs and passes that open up space for his teammates and is arguably one of the best false-9 players in the world. If we lost him for nothing, not only would that be a chance spurned to rake in a fee for a player of his quality, but a replacement that offers us similar attributes may not come cheap.

Even in the dressing room as well, the player gets a lot of respect from his fellow teammates. He is Jurgen Klopp’s most used player at the club, and that speaks levels. In 348 appearances for the Reds across all competitions, he has scored 107 goals and has 78 assists to his name as well.

Extending Firmino’s contract beyond the current season would be a good move for Liverpool as it would give them the continuity and stability that they need in order to continue to be successful while having youngsters like Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo in the team at the same time.

In any case, Firmino is a fan favourite and if he departs the club, a section of the fans will certainly not be extremely pleased with that decision.

More Liverpool News:

Firmino’s contributions to the team are undeniable, and his style of play fits perfectly with the team’s philosophy and system. Losing him would certainly create a significant void in the team that would be difficult to fill.
