Chelsea, on deadline day, signed Liverpool target Enzo Fernandez for a British record fee of £105m. That could have a Domino effect on the Reds signing their long-term transfer target Jude Bellingham as Fernandez’s deal with Blues will certainly have its effect on the market dynamics.
The 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund man is an ever-present on the Reds’ transfer radar and he would be an absolutely important part of the core of Liverpool’s midfield for the next few years if the Reds somehow manage to get the player on board.
However, according to German journalist Christian Falk, the acquisition of Enzo by Chelsea could have an effect on Liverpool’s pursuit of Jude Bellingham. That means that Jude’s already estimated price tag of £131m
could go further upwards. Here is what Falk wrote in his column for Caught Offside via Liverpool Echo:
“We’ve mentioned already that in March there should be talks around Jude Bellingham. All sides were keeping a close eye on the deal for Enzo Fernández; certainly, Dortmund now feel they have a suitable benchmark for Bellingham thanks to the Chelsea transfer.
“Now they’re saying he won’t be cheaper. So Liverpool now know what they have to bring to the table – it shouldn’t be less than the transfer fee for Fernández.”
Following Enzo’s big-money move, Bellingham will now stand seen as an even more valuable prospect and his price tag could increase accordingly. Market dynamics for talented young players like Bellingham will change, and clubs will have to stand prepared to pay more for their signatures.
In the current transfer market, young players with high potential are in high demand, and clubs are willing to spend large sums of money to secure their signatures. Recent transfers of players such as Enzo and Jadon Sancho have displayed this trend.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Bellingham will now become even more difficult as a result of Chelsea’s transfer. This is because Liverpool will not only have to compete with other top clubs for the signature of the young player, but they will also have to offer more or similar money than what Chelsea paid for Enzo.
This will put a significant strain on the Reds’ transfer budget and make it more difficult for them to secure the signature of the player they desire.
One thing is for certain. FSG need to pay the big bucks to help Liverpool secure their ideal transfer targets or the Reds will fall off very badly in comparison to their rivals which is certainly not good.
