Transfer News: Liverpool and Aston Villa linked with Nico Williams move

Liverpool seek another forward and are targeting Athletic Bilbao’s Spanish forward Nico Williams. Note: Not Welshman Neco Williams, who left Liverpool in the summer. But jokes apart, to keep it short and direct, there’s no need for a forward at the club.

According to Spanish news outlet AS, via Sport Witness (h/t Liverpool Echo), the Reds are evaluating the possibility of acquiring Williams and are also open to “assessing the feasibility” of a potential transfer.

Moreover, even Aston Villa share an interest in the 20-year-old who has six goals and as many assists in 25

appearances across all competitions this season. The right-winger is the younger brother of Inaki Williams, who is his captain at the club level.

Could Nico Williams move to Liverpool?

There is no need for reintroducing the need for a midfielder at the club. Poor performances from the current lot in addition to the ever-growing average squad size are things that the Reds need to address.

And at such times, any available funds should ideally be channelled towards getting on onboard a new midfielder. Taking absolutely nothing away from the player Williams is and his talent, he is certainly not the player Liverpool needs at this moment in time.

With Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, our attack seems stacked. Moreover, the prospect of Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliott joining the ranks as time goes on is also something the Reds need to keep in mind.

Liverpool’s pursuit of long-term transfer interest Jude Bellingham is certainly not cheap. But if the Reds decide to trigger the £44m release clause in Williams’ contract, the Merseysiders will have a tough time financing the deal for Jude instead.
