Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told to ‘go hard’ at FSG over transfers

Following the lack of investment from Liverpool owners FSG, Jurgen Klopp has had it tough to compete with the Reds’ rivals in the Premier League. Presently, the Reds find themselves in the 11th position on the Premier League table and have a long way to go to catch up with the top four teams.

In the entire January transfer window, Liverpool signed only one player amid shouts of a midfield reshuffle. The player we signed? PSV left-winger Cody Gakpo. Even though the decision to get Gakpo on board was smart, the management could have done a better job by bringing in a midfielder.

Even the owners could stand blamed to a certain extent but it is the manager’s job to work with what’s available at his disposal and that is exactly what Klopp said in multiple press conferences. His efforts at the club certainly need more financial support and former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino agrees as well.

Speaking to talkSPORT via Liverpool Echo, here is what Cascarino said about Klopp and how his ‘not being hard’ at the owners has at times cost him:

“I think he’s been way too loyal to too many players, I think there should have been change. One of Fergie’s (Sir Alex Ferguson) great things, and other clubs have done with other managers, when you’re in a position of power you go hard. He (Klopp) didn’t go hard and Liverpool didn’t go hard in the summer to push for certain players to come.”

Is Klopp too soft at times?

The upcoming summer transfer window gives him the opportunity to go all guns blazing at the owners for not helping him out financially during times when the club could have actually benefitted from having an additional player or two.

A number of midfielders’ contracts at Liverpool end in June later this year which opens the door for a lot of potential new incomings. The prospect of Jude Bellingham joining the club in the summer is real and Klopp has 100% authority and the right as well to demand backing from the owners.

As Cascarino said, Klopp evidently doesn’t seem to get vocal when it comes to the owners spending money and it is understandable from a diplomatic point of view as well. But now, things have become difficult to control and there is no better opportunity for Klopp to express himself.

The manager has done enough for the club to get into an advantageous position and make it absolutely clear to the owners that there should have been more investment over the summer, and due to the lack of the same, the sorry state of the club is as evident as it could get.
