AC Milan to ‘step up’ pursuit for Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita next summer
Serie A giants AC Milan are set to ‘step up’ their pursuit of Liverpool star Naby Keita, who they are hoping to sign on a free transfer next summer, according to The Mirror.
In the upcoming transfer window, the Rosoneri will look to add the Guinea international to their ranks. The midfielder’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign.
Since January, the 27-year-old is available to negotiate pre-contract terms with foreign clubs. Jurgen Klopp will not hinder the former RB Leipzig star’s exit if he wants to leave the Merseyside outfit.
Keita made his way to the Red in the summer of 2018 from Die Roten Bullen for a then club record £51.6 million. However, the Guinean international has not lived up to that price tag.
Initially, the 27-year-old struggled to settle in the Premier League. In subsequent seasons, injuries have hampered the midfielder’s game time. As a result, he has been unable to get a good run in the team.
However, in the previous campaign, Keita managed to show glimpses of his talent consistently. The Guinea international was a pivotal player for Klopp as we made it to four major finals.
Unfortunately, this season seems like a write-off for moist Liverpool players. The 27-year-old, like most of our midfielders, has been underwhelming.
The Reds have an ageing midfield, with the likes of Jordan Henderson and James Milner still playing an important role in the starting lineup. On the other hand, the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho have not hit the heights of their talent.

It seems that the Merseyside outfit will need a major overhaul, especially in the engine room. Keita has not been able to make a big enough mark with us, having shone with Leipzig. It remains to be seen whether Milan will snap up another one of our players for free like they did with Divock Origi last summer.
