Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp explains James Pearce snub

Following the Reds’ recent 3-0 loss to Wolves in the league a few days ago, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp refused to entertain a question from The Athletic’s James Pearce which came across as an act of frustration but the manager reasoned the same in his latest presser.

Ahead of Monday’s high-octane clash against local rivals Everton, the Liverpool manager found himself in a midst of questions from journalists and that was when he reverted to why he did not wish to answer Pearce’s questions.

The German was extremely straightforward and said that it was tough to answer his questions because of “what he wrote” and went on to answer the same question from a different reporter. Former Red Dietmar Hamann called for Klopp to apologise, but it is the coach’s choice to answer a question or not.

Here is what the boss had to say about his previous action in his latest presser coming in via Daily Mail:

“When it is not going well, you cannot explain similar mistakes 500 times in a different way or new mistakes.”

“It is not easy and you know it. It is not disrespectful when I say you cannot deal with it. Some of you make massive things of what I say and it is not my intention.”

“I can explain in football absolutely everything, but not to you. Its true. It is not my job. What I see is not for you.”

Is Klopp disrespectful to the press?

Basically, what Klopp is trying to say is that journalists too often blow things out of proportion and mean totally different things than what the manager actually did. Furthermore, Klopp also stated that he could explain everything to the press, but technical details are too much for the press to handle as well.

Hard to go up against that logic. However, these things are too trivial in the bigger picture. As far as the manager is doing what he is supposed to on the pitch, what he does in press conferences should certainly not be a huge issue. Unless it is of course something that is totally out of bounds.

Klopp expressed that the questions from the press become too repetitive and it becomes difficult for the 55-year-old to continually rephrase himself each time the same question stands asked in different ways.

This repetition can be tedious, and Klopp may feel as though he is constantly saying the same thing over and over again. However, as a professional and experienced manager, Klopp would understand the importance of maintaining open and transparent communication with the press.
