Jude Bellingham could extend Borussia Dortmund stay and wait for Liverpool transfer

Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham could opt to extend his stay in Germany next summer and wait for a transfer to Liverpool.

If the Reds were to miss out on European football next season, there is a possibility that the 19-year-old will remain at BVB for another year. Along with the Merseysiders, Premier League rivals Manchester City and Spanish giants Real Madrid are also interested in him.

Currently, Jurgen Klopp’s team are going through a rough spell. We have suffered multiple setbacks week after week in our bid to finish in the top four. The 3-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers in our last fixture was bitter.

However, in his exclusive Caught Offside column (h/t Liverpool Echo), Christian Falk of SportBILD has suggested that Liverpool are still leading the race for Bellingham.

“It’s also a hope for Dortmund still that, if Liverpool aren’t playing in Europe, there’s the possibility of extending Bellingham’s stay by a year. Dortmund has a good chance of winning the Bundesliga, it’s very close. So there could be a chance that Bellingham waits for Liverpool.”

The England international joined Dortmund in the summer of 2020 from Birmingham City. Subsequently, the 19-year-old has developed into one of the finest players in the Bundesliga.

In the current campaign, the midfielder has taken his game to the next level. On a few occasions, Edin Terzic, the BVB manager, has even handed the youngster the captain’s armband.

Bellingham also turned a lot of heads with his performances in the 2022 World Cup. The 19-year-old was a key player for Gareth Southgate in Qatar. However, the Three Lions were knocked out by France in the quarter-finals.

Liverpool’s engine room has not aged like fine wine since last season. The likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Fabinho have regressed since the previous campaign.

Therefore, the Red evidently need an injection of fresh blood in the middle of the park. Hopefully, Bellingham will reject other proposals in favour of making his way to Merseyside in the coming future.
