Liverpool star Mohamed Salah talks about the Merseyside Derby win

Jurgen Klopp was emotional at the end of the 90 minutes as he also did his trademark ‘air-punch’ celebration with the Liverpool supporters. Goals from Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo ensured that the Reds got the better of their rivals Everton and register their first league win of 2023.

It was indeed a relief for Mo, who was visibly going through a lean patch, as his last goal came against Aston Villa back in December. With Mo getting on the scoresheet and the style of play in the game seems like the Reds have got their mojo back, hopefully, we can push ourselves towards a place in the top four.

The two-day break after the loss to Wolves surely has helped Liverpool in a certain way as the full week of training post that has seen a change in attitude as well. As earlier said, Salah getting back on track is a major boost for the Reds as if the Egyptian is at his best, the team is at its best.

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t BBC), Salah emphasized how important it was for the Reds to get this win and here is what he said:

“It’s a huge win for us, we had a perfect week to train and the players were so excited and we couldn’t wait for the game to turn everything around and hopefully it was a start.”

The Start of a turnaround?

With this win, the Reds take their total points tally to 32 from 21 games and sit in ninth place with a game in hand over eighth-placed Brentford and two over seventh-placed Fulham. Moreover, Liverpool also have a game in hand over Chelsea who are in tenth place.

The next few weeks promise a lot of tough challenges for the Reds as we face the high-flying Magpies away from home at St. James Park and also play Real Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie.
