“Always difficult”- Real Madrid ace is ready for Anfield challenge against Liverpool

Real Madrid star Rodrygo makes Anfield claim before Liverpool clash

Spanish giants Real Madrid have gone on to become the nemesis for Liverpool in recent years. Apart from beating us in the finals of the UEFA Champions League on two occasions in 2018 and 2022, Los Blancos also knocked us out of the 2021 edition of the tournament as well.

Revenge will be a word far away from the Reds’ minds as last time Mo Salah talked about getting back at Madrid, Liverpool, unfortunately, lost out on getting a seventh European title. However, we could rather rebrand revenge as redemption and try our best to get the better of Madrid when they visit Anfield on the 21st of February in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg.

In a recent interview, Real Madrid winger Rodrygo discussed his team’s readiness to face Liverpool in the upcoming Champions League match at the L4. Jurgen Klopp and Co. would know the threats that the Spanish giants possess coming into the game. After all, they are European Royalty.

Here is what Rodrygo told Goal (h/t Liverpool Echo) about how tough it is to face Liverpool. The Brazilian’s last visit to the Reds was back in April 2021, in the QF of the UCL played behind closed doors:

“The game there is going to be very difficult, we already know this,”

“Playing against Liverpool is always difficult whether with or without fans, but at Anfield even more. We are ready.”

Madrid v Liverpool and the Anfield Factor

Fortress Anfield, even with a number of breaches in recent seasons has been amazing for the Reds. Even more on UCL nights. The impact of Liverpool’s passionate and vocal supporters at Anfield on the team’s performance in the UEFA Champions League cannot stand overstated.

The stadium’s atmosphere is as electric as it could get, with fans creating a wall of noise that can unsettle even the most experienced opposition. The team’s high-tempo pressing and attacking style of play is perfectly suited to the energy of the home crowd, and European opponents have often found it difficult to cope with the intensity of Liverpool’s play.

Real Madrid, however, is a team with vast experience at the highest level of European football, and they will not be easily intimidated. The Spanish giants have a wealth of talent in their squad and will be fully aware of the challenge that awaits them at Anfield.

Nonetheless, Liverpool’s home advantage could prove to be a significant factor in their favour. The noise and passion of the home crowd can inspire the Liverpool players to raise their level of play, and this could give them the edge they need to overcome the challenge of Real Madrid.
