Liverpool send scouts to watch Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio
According to Correio da Manhã (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have sent scouts to watch Sporting Lisbon’s 21-year-old central defender, Goncalo Inacio. The player has a release clause of £40m, which is a hefty price tag for a relatively unknown player.
However, Liverpool show interest in acquiring Inacio’s services to bolster their defensive line, as they look to rebuild following a tough season. The player has been impressive for Sporting this season, with a string of solid performances in the Portuguese league.
His ability to read the game and tackle efficiently has drawn the attention of Liverpool scouts, who are keen to add a player of his calibre to their squad. Moreover, he also has two goals and as many assists in 32 appearances across all competitions and that is a lot for a CB.
If Liverpool were to sign Inacio, it would represent a significant investment in the future of the club. Despite his young age, the Portuguese defender has already shown immense potential, and his signing would also demonstrate Liverpool’s commitment to building a strong defensive unit for the future.
Do Liverpool need a centre-back?
Additionally, with the ages of our starting centre-backs well beyond 31, there could be a need to somewhat reshuffle that department of our squad as well. However, the need to get new defenders is certainly not as urgent as it is to get on board new midfielders as we have a few young defenders in our team, but it is not the case when it comes to the middle of the park.
Moreover, the news of Liverpool’s interest in Inacio comes at a time when rumours are circulating about the departure of Joel Matip from the club next summer. Matip has been a key player for Liverpool over the years but he has been below standards this season. His potential departure would leave a significant void in our defensive line.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool could secure Inacio’s services, given the high release clause quoted by Sporting Lisbon. But in any case, his signing would represent a significant investment in the future of the club, and Liverpool fans will be eagerly watching to see if the club is able to secure his services.
