Ian Wright makes ‘sensational’ Darwin Nunez claim after Liverpool win

Even though Darwin Nunez did not score against Everton in Liverpool FC’s recent 2-0 win over their rivals, the 23-year-old Uruguayan played a huge part in the game. He assisted Mohamed Salah’s opener and also created havoc in their backline with his pace and it was certainly a long night for Seamus Coleman who marked him.

Even though the player has not added to his goal tally since Southampton, Darwin would obviously be eager to add to his total of 10 goals and four assists in 27 appearances across all competitions this season.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright gave his verdict on the former Benfica man’s performance against the Toffees. One could guess that he’s pleased with the Uruguayan, to say the least. However, Wrighty has a lot of expectations from Nunez and he has to live up to them.

Here is what Wright had to say about Darwin via Liverpool Echo:

“I feel it is going to happen for him as he is playing sensationally. The goal he set up for Salah [against Everton] and his all-round energetic pace and output, he is doing everything except scoring.⁣”

“I can’t put my finger on why someone with such good technical ability, it’s not even a case of needing to slow down before he shoots, it just doesn’t seem like it is going to go in for him at the moment.⁣”

Nunez for the Reds

If Darwin could have somehow scored half the chances he has missed, he would have been flying high by now. However, it is understandable that it takes time to adjust to a new league and all of that. However, such is the way Luis Diaz has spoilt us by taking the Premier League by storm.

But the improvements from Nunez have been evident compared to his initial games for the team. As Wright said, it seems like he’s unable to score even though he’s been doing everything else just as right as it could get.

However, it is important to note that Darwin isn’t performing badly by any means. He could do better than what he is doing now. It is true that Nunez has missed some chances that he should have converted into goals, but it is important to remember that he is still adapting to a new team and league.

The Premier League is one of the most challenging leagues in the world, and it takes time for players to adjust to the intensity and physicality of the competition. Looking at his performance in a more objective way, his goal output is not a bad return for his first season in the Premier League.

In conclusion, while Nunez has missed some opportunities that he could have converted into goals, it is only a matter of time before he gets going in full throttle. He is a young, talented player who has already shown signs of his potential, and with more time and experience, he is sure to become a crucial player for Liverpool in the future.
