FC Barcelona are showing interest in Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita

According to Diario SPORT (h/t Liverpool Echo), FC Barcelona have shown interest in Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita and are looking to sign him for free in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Keita’s contract at Liverpool expires at the end of the current season and there is still uncertainty about whether the club and the player are willing to agree to a contract extension.

This has alerted top clubs with Barcelona being one of them, who are now eligible to speak to the player and offer him terms with Keita entering the final six months of the contract.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are looking at a midfield revamp and Keita, whose transfer was met with utmost excitement in 2018, could be one of the casualties.

Keita has failed to truly ignite his Liverpool career and never been able to stake a real claim in the starting eleven with the current season being his fifth with the club.

Constant injury issues added to the ability to adhere to a new league have been the biggest factors behind the downfall and ideally, it does suit both parties to move separate ways.

At 28, he still has the time to rejuvenate his career in a different league where his particular skill set could be used to its potential.

Premier League football is too intense and physical for footballers and some are not able to adjust wholly to the way it is done in England.

More Liverpool News:

That does not mean that they are not good players and just need the right environment to excel again, as was the case with Keita at RB Leipzig.

Hopefully, more clarity on the current situation will be provided soon so that both the team and players could look forward to ending the season on a good note.
