“They could be 10, 12 points adrift”- Michael Owen tells Liverpool the importance of next five games

Michael Owen sends Liverpool warning over the next five league fixtures

Liverpool FC’s quest for a place in the top four of the Premier League has been far from straightforward this season, and former Reds striker Michael Owen believes that the club’s next five fixtures will be season-defining.

The Reds are currently on a four-match unbeaten streak in the league and have kept a clean sheet in all these games. There is a sense of hope that if Liverpool could keep up this level of consistency, they could certainly push for a top-four finish after the uneasiest of starts to their domestic campaign.

Michael Owen believes Liverpool’s next five fixtures in the Premier League are season-defining as they battle for a place in the top four. This set of five games starts this Sunday at Anfield, against our arch-rivals Manchester United.

Former Liverpool star Michael Owen.

Here is what Owen told the Premier League on the prospect of Liverpool getting a spot in the top four:

“If they’re no further away from the top-four after that run of those fixtures, then they’ll do it [finish in the top four], I’m convinced of it.”

“They could be out of it after those [matches], if they go on a poor run. They could be 10, 12 points adrift with eight games to go.”

The Reds’ top-four finish

Owen’s comments come as Liverpool prepares to face a tough run of fixtures in the coming weeks, with matches against Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal all on the horizon. These games will certainly be crucial in determining whether the Reds can achieve their goal of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Owen’s comments highlight just how crucial these next few weeks will be for Liverpool, as they aim to keep their hopes of a top-four finish alive. These fixtures will be far from easy for the Reds as they hope to get a UCL spot. Liverpool are currently in sixth place on the table, six points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand.

Michael Owen’s recent comments about Liverpool are precise.

Despite their recent tough times, Liverpool will need to be at their best to navigate the challenging fixtures ahead. The team’s defence, which has certainly been a cause for concern at times this season, will need to be solid against some of the league’s top attacking sides including United.

Offensively, Liverpool obviously has plenty of firepower, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino all capable of scoring goals. However, the team will need to be clinical in front of goal if they are to pick up points against some of their toughest opponents.
