Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk says ‘big atmosphere needed’ for the Manchester United game
Liverpool are now four games unbeaten in the league after their 2-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah were enough to get the better of Julen Lopetegui’s side and we got the better of the Midlanders.
Virgil obviously put in a solid performance after facing a lot of criticism this week over his showing against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. But over the course of their last four Premier League matches, the Reds have managed to maintain a spotless defensive record, without conceding a single goal.
This feat has allowed them to amass a total of 10 points during this period including a draw against Crystal Palace, as they continue their pursuit to secure a top-four finish in the league standings. Our next league fixture is against Manchester United, who are high-flying at the moment, especially after winning the Carabao Cup under Erik ten Hag.
Speaking on the importance of that fixture and how important it is to create a strong atmosphere at Anfield on Sunday when we take on the Red Devils, here is what Virgil told the club’s official website:
“I think we need a big atmosphere on Sunday. I think today obviously it was quite nervous and hopefully on Sunday we can get everyone in their best – including us, because we obviously have to do the hard work on the pitch against an in-form Man United.”
Anfield needs to be electric against United
Liverpool’s clash with Manchester United is always one of the most highly anticipated matches in the Premier League calendar, and this season is no different. The Red Devils are currently on a roll and sit in third place at the table. Marcus Rashford is spearheading their attack in a fabulous way and is on a scoring spree like Mohamed Salah last season.
On the other hand, Liverpool are currently pushing for a top-four finish, having had a mixed season so far. They have struggled with injuries to key players such as van Dijk himself, and have faced criticism for their inconsistent performances.
However, they have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks as we can see through the four clean sheets. A win against their bitter rivals would not only give them a vital three points but also boost their confidence and momentum going forward.
The Reds will be hoping to put in a solid defensive performance and keep United’s attacking threats at bay. Moreover, the crowd’s support will be crucial in helping them achieve this. Anfield is known for its electrifying atmosphere and it will be important for those in attendance to make their presence felt and cheer on the team throughout the game.
