Journalist claims that the likelihood of Liverpool signing Mason Mount is high

According to Talksport journalist Alex Crook (h/t Liverpool Echo), it is becoming highly likely that Liverpool will sign Chelsea star Mason Mount in the coming summer window.

Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in signing Mount, who is yet to sign a new contract at Chelsea despite multiple offers. His current deal at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt), and he wants to be one of the best-paid players at the club.

A recent report in The Athletic (subscription required) has updated us on the fact that Chelsea have stopped the negotiations for a new contract until the summer. If they do not conjure up an agreement, they will sell the player.

Mount has been one of the best Chelsea players in the last two years. He has not been at his best currently, but that can be said about most players in that team who have won only two of their last 15 league games.

A smart option for Liverpool

The England international is a versatile player who can operate as an attacking midfielder or on the wing. We have seen him prosper when operating in the central areas though.

The 24-year-old possesses elite qualities on the ball in the final third, works his socks off defensively and his versatility is an advantage for any manager.

It is not a secret that Liverpool will be looking to sign multiple midfielders in the coming summer. They require legs, quality and youthful exuberance in that department before the start of next season.

Mount can provide all of that and improve his game under the expert coaching of Jurgen Klopp and his staff. Given his qualities, he can play as one of the number eights in the Klopp system at Anfield.
