Transfer News: Liverpool scout 21-year-old Portuguese starlet

Liverpool scout young Portuguese defender Goncalo Inacio of Sporting Lisbon

Liverpool have scouted Sporting Lisbon’s centre-half Goncalo Inacio ahead of a potential summer move. The 21-year-old defender is subject to transfer interest this summer, and Liverpool may be looking to bolster their defensive ranks after a disappointing season.

According to GOAL via Liverpool Echo, the Reds have scouted the Portuguese international and could possibly make a move for him over the summer. The Reds have struggled with injuries to their key defenders this season, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip all spending significant time on the sidelines.

As a result, Liverpool’s defensive performances have been far from their usual high standards, and the club has conceded more goals than in recent seasons. And not only that, apart from injuries, performances have also been extremely inconsistent leading to tough times for Alisson between the sticks.

Matip’s future at the club is reportedly uncertain due to his dipping levels, with rumours suggesting that he could leave Anfield in the summer. If Matip does depart, Liverpool will be in need of a reliable and consistent centre-back to partner with Van Dijk.

New CB at the Reds?

Inacio has emerged as a potential target for Liverpool, and the young defender has shown promising signs in his performances for Sporting Lisbon. The 21-year-old is a composed and intelligent defender, who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and has excellent positional awareness.

Furthermore, Inacio’s versatility could be another factor that attracts Liverpool. He has played as both a centre-back and a left-back for Sporting Lisbon, which would give Jurgen Klopp more options in terms of squad depth and tactical flexibility.

While Liverpool has several young defenders in their squad, including Ibrahima Konate who is very injury-prone and Rhys Williams, he lacks the experience and maturity required to consistently perform at the highest level. Inacio could be a valuable addition to the squad, providing competition for places and a fresh injection of talent.

However, Liverpool will likely face competition from other top clubs in Europe for Inacio’s signature. The young defender has impressed several scouts and is seen as a rising star in Portuguese football. Liverpool will have to act fast and offer a competitive deal if they want to secure his services.

To conclude, Liverpool’s pursuit of Inacio could be a wise move in their search for defensive reinforcements. The young centre-back has shown promise and potential, and his versatility could certainly provide Jurgen Klopp with more options in terms of squad depth and tactical flexibility.
