Liverpool is one of the Premier League sides that show interest in Renato Sanches of Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 leaders confirmed the signing of the Portuguese star just one year ago, but recent reports suggest they are now willing to sell him.
That is according to 90min.com via Liverpool Echo. The news comes as a shock as it has not been very long since the player moved to Paris from Lille. The 25-year-old has made 20 appearances across all competitions this season scoring a couple of goals.
The central midfielder has his links with Liverpool at a time when the Reds are in dire need of players like him. The squad is currently going through a phase of transition and there is a lack of good, starter-quality young midfielders at the club at this moment.
Sanches’ versatility would also make him an attractive proposition for Liverpool. He is capable of playing in a variety of midfield positions, making him a useful asset for manager Jurgen Klopp. His physicality and ability to break up play would be particularly useful in the Premier League, and he would add a new dimension to Liverpool’s midfield.
The likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will in all likelihood depart from the club in the summer after the end of their contracts. Moreover, even James Milner’s contract will end later this year.
With Jordan Henderson and Fabinho not showing the same levels of consistency and Thiago with his injury-prone nature, Liverpool would do themselves a world of good by getting on board a new midfielder or two. This season has shown how a couple of injuries can kill the entire depth, and that is something we need to address as soon as possible.
Moreover, Italian giants AC Milan are also interested in the Portuguese international’s services. The former Swansea man will certainly be a man in demand in case PSG want to sell him, and the Reds need to move quickly if they want to actually sign him.
Since joining Les Parisiens, Sanches has only started in three Ligue 1 matches and has played a total of 652 minutes across all competitions and game time might be something he would want to change.
The Reds can probably assure him a sizeable amount of game time given we are extremely slim in the midfield department, and we do not have a lot of depth in that aspect of our squad. Hopefully, we get on board a few midfielders at Anfield in the summer.
