Liverpool set to make a move for young Irish sensation Mason Melia

According to Football Insider (h/t Irish Mirror), Liverpool are set to make a move for young sensation Mason Melia who currently plays for St Patrick’s Athletic.

Melia’s exploits at the junior level have caught the attention of the Liverpool scouts, who are among the few Premier League clubs to have kept an eye on him.

He became the youngest St. Patrick’s senior player to score a goal for them, when he did so against Wexford back in January aged 15 years and 132 days.

The 15-year-old is a centre-forward by trade who has represented the Republic of Ireland at the U16 level so far.

There is a lot to like about Melia’s game that eventually attracted the Liverpool scouts to keep a close eye on him.

It remains to be seen whether the club would make a move for the teenager in the summer. If that is the case, he would be a genuine option to play for the U18 or U21 next season.

We all know that Liverpool’s focus in the coming transfer window will be to bolster their midfield department.

But, it is also important to buy the right young players and develop them here to come good in due course of time.

If we look at Harvey Elliott and Stefan Bajcetic, they are perfect examples of the club signing highly-rated young players, developing them and thrusting them into the first-team squad at the right time.

As a striker, Melia can come, score a bucketload of goals for the youth sides and slowly move up the ladder to ply his trade for the senior team.
