Bayern Munich move ‘ruled out’ of move for Liverpool target Mason Mount
After reports emerged that following his appointment as Bayern Munich manager, former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel wishes to reunite with Liverpool transfer target Mason Mount, German journalist Christian Falk dismissed those claims. (h/t ECHO)
The 24-year-old is among the midfielders who stand linked with a move to Merseyside amid calls for a complete overhaul regarding the middle of the park at Anfield. With the likes of Jordan Henderson and James Milner ageing added to the most likely departures of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the end of the season, the Reds certainly need to reinvest in their midfield.
Mount alongside Jude Bellingham is probably among the top players that see themselves linked with a Liverpool move. With his contract expiring in 2024 (Transfermarkt) and no signs of a new deal, Chelsea could stand cornered to sell their academy graduate to a league rival.
The last time we signed from a traditional top-six rival was back in 2017 when we got on board Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who’s not had a great run with the Reds, mainly due to injury issues.
Bayern out of the way
While the fact that Bayern might not cause a hindrance to Liverpool in their pursuit of Mount is for sure a relief, the race is still wide open as Manchester United are still active and more than that, the player could himself have a change of mind and sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
In any case, it is extremely wise to have fallback options in plenty as things change pretty quickly in football and it is necessary that the Reds have adequate options to choose from. However, Mount is a player who could fit in like a glove in Jurgen Klopp’s system of high-press due to his relentless runs.
In 32 appearances across all competitions this season, Mount has three goals and six assists to his name. His versatility in midfield is something Klopp could work wonders with. His work rates make him a like-to-like replacement for someone like Jordan Henderson, but far more technical.
Mount is one of the league’s finest talents and there is a notion that the player is underutilized under Graham Potter. In this sense, to extract the best out of himself, a move to Liverpool might actually be something that Mount could fancy.
